Do you realize leukemia is the Number 1 killer (disease) of children under the age of 15 , and that by the age of 20, 1 out of every 330 American kids will be diagnosed with some form of cancer? Childhood cancer kills more American children than asthma, diabetes, cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy and AIDS COMBINED!
On an average weekday, 46 families lives are turned upside down as they are told their child has cancer. We also need to educate people about the fact that while we have made great strides in treating some Childhood Cancers (for example, Ron’s type of leukemia, A.L.L., has approx 85% survival rate), but we have made less progress in treating others (for example A.M.L. has an approx. 40% survival rate). More funding is needed for other cancers like AML, CML and Neuroblastoma. {to name only a few}
********** USELESS TRIVIA NOTE **********
People have been asking where “Gooch” came from. Well, to be perfectly honest, I dont quite remember. It is generally remembered as my brother doing “Coochy coochy coo” & the girls getting Goochy out of it. Somehow, pretty much his whole life, Ronnie has been The Gooch. There have been variations - Goochie, Goochman, Goochinator, Goochmeister, but Gooch just fits…

The table below has been here since 2001, and eventually led to the idea behind the Adopt a Kid’s Site - where people not just randomly visited a new site, but we could keep track of who was getting visitors and who wasn’t. It grew massively, which Amie suspected but I never believed it would catch on. On its one year anniversary (Jan 13, 2004) the Adopt a kids Site was revamped to include adults’ sites and more milestones and birthday pages and was renamed and moved to :
Share the Love
I only started this table because for privacy’s sake, CaringBridge doesnt have an index. You cant look up a site on Caringbridge, you need its exact url. For the Share the Love site, the parents (or adult) either submit the site to be added, or they are notified if someone else recommended the site to us and are asked if it’s okay to list their/ their child’s website. Many people have emailed me for such tables or drop down bars on their sites, and I’m glad we are all promoting more visitors to more sites, just bear in mind that some people may not want to be listed, so try to always ask before adding their name and site to yours.
I know it’s awkward, but don’t shy away from the sites with crosses,
who have passed away, their families need the support the most.
